People with low immunity power suffer mostly from cough and cold. The immune system in most of us is very low and become vulnerable to diseases. Cough and cold happens due to seasonal changes and also due to allergies, pollution and smoke. Both cough and cold happens due to variety of bacteria and viruses that are contagious.

Symptoms of cold and cough:

Cough and cold symptoms are sore throat, whooping cough, congestion and runny nose. It causes breathing difficulty, heaviness, headache, body ache, loss of appetite. It may cause breathing problem in many as well. If you catch a cold or cough the best way to prevent it is by washing hand frequently and keeping the viruses away.

One can protect from the cough and cold to boost one’s immune system is by following these simple tips:

  • Staying fit helps to boost the immune system and can prevent cough and cold.
  • Smoking should be quitted.
  • Stress is another factor that affects the human health so one must take rest.
  • Drinks with caffeine must be avoided instead herbal teas or lots of water should be consumed.
  • Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits, green vegetables and whole grain foods that give lots of minerals and proteins to the body.
  • One must get proper rest and good nutrition to improve the resistance power.
  • Avoid sharing personal items like pillows, towels and toiletries.
  • Never touch your mouth, eyes or nose without washing hands.
  • Hand washing is a survival skill!

How is cough and cold caused?

Cough is caused by inflammation of the bronchial tubes and throat. This inflammation causes the mucus to form which we try to take out by coughing. The vitality of the system has been lowered due to improper diet and fresh air. Cold is an infection of the upper respiratory tract that causes nasal congestion and sneezing. Improper clothing and bedding at night often cause cold. The infection of cold goes down from lungs to further trouble the body. Cough and cold can be treated by home remedies as well.

Some of the home remedies are:

  • Steam inhalation: boil water and place your head over the pot at a safe distance. The steam provides moisture and gives relief!
  • Water: water thins down the mucus and expels it from the body.
  • Gargle: putting salt in lukewarm water and then gargling with it may give instant relief to the sore throat.
  • Vitamin C: intake of vitamin C builds up the immunity system and chances of nasal infection becomes less.
  • Honey: a spoonful of honey consumed regularly is useful in such conditions.
  • Soup: soups are easy to swallow and give relief.
  • Tea: tea with ginger is beneficial.
  • Garlic: garlic in raw form or eaten with soup can provide good relief to the cold.

All these home ingredients give instant relief to the problem of cough and cold.
